Visited the AbandonApps web site, very interesting. Many 'old' programs
which I an tempted to use on the Poqet or on an equally ancient Compaq.

One program which I thought was interesting was the first version of
Windows. This downloads as disk 1.rar and disk2.rar. Could anyone please let
me know what *.rar means? and what I have to do to get it up and running.

Cheers

Steve

Files with the extension ".rar" are archived files, somewhat like .zip
files. They can be extracted with a number of programs. One good one for use
on a Windows machine is WinRar, which can be downloaded from:

As per its opening page to the website:
OK, apparently the RAR files dont work on 50megs, so Ive changed them to ZIP
files. Just rename them after download to RAR. Also, the old link to
Winimage was down. Ive updated that to the official site.
