Poqeteers,

Now that Don Yates has brought it up, I would be interested in people's =
opinions of the potential replacements for the Poqet, both already on =
the market and those rumoured/announced.

Don says the Psion Series 5's keyboard is more cramped than the Poqet. I =
was considering the Psion until that very moment. I'm very interested in =
the announced NEC MobilePro 700, which is a larger form factor Wince2 =
machine.

If it's not too much to ask, what I basically want is this:=20

* Long usage (20 hours +) from AA batteries=20
* Sharp, bright non-reflective grey-scale screen=20
* Keyboard on which you can touch type=20
* Size when closed: Smaller than 24cm x 16cm x 2cm=20
* Easy connectivity with Win95 desktop=20
* Built-in sound recording=20
* Enough memory for a week long road trip (maybe 16MB RAM)=20
* Built-in soft modem & RJ11 jack=20
* Two PC Card slots, or 1 PC card and one Compact Flash slot
* Under $1000 (Australian)=20
* Decent e-mail and WP software. Web browser? not crucial

Seems to me that the new larger Wince2 machines are the most likely to =
fill the bill. I can't hold my breath long enough to wait for =
Apple/Newton to deliver a new eMate/bMate.

Sorry about the delay in responding. I am happily using DOS utilities plus a
DOS redition of grep.

This gives me the opportunity to mention that TSE (the Sem Editor) can be
used on the Poqet afterall. Sammy Mitchell suggested turning off extended
keyboard support to rid the program of the one function that uses the non
maskable interrupt. That interrupt is used by Poqet power management.

Mitchell is right. That gives me all the functions I need for writing,
printing, and adding columns.

happy, happy, joy, joy

Anna
